London Road lies to the north of Brighton. It is often at the receiving end of bad press and subject to a conflict of representation in the city. The area is on the verge of regeneration. The open market is due redevelopment. And there is talk of a Tesco supermarket moving into the area.
Sound Maps of London Road began as a community-mapping project involving oral history, field recording, story exchange and conversation. This body of work was devised in collaboration with the people living, shopping, working, and studying in the area and the people passing through. We discovered truths, disbanded some myths and made friends along the way.
